Installation Considerations: Minimal system impact Installation Instructions: See Client README - Step IV. Installation Instructions. New Features: 1. [V02^AAI] ASAP 2.8 adds 12 new entities and 600 new attributes. The ASAP 2.8 factory Entity Definition Language (EDL) file ASAP2SYS.EDL has been updated to support 12 new entity types and 600 new statistical attributes. Updates fall into the following two categories: First, there are 9 new TCPIP entities added to ASAP2SYS.EDL that describe the 484 new TCPIP statistics attributes associated with the TCP/IP subsystem. In addition to these 9 entities, there are 3 new TELSERV entities describing 111 new TELSERV attributes. These new TCP and TELSERV entity- attribute descriptions are monitored by a new optional ASAP TCPIP plug-in. The TCPIP plug-in is optional product number T0406 distributed as marketing product ID HSE35 for H-series or SE35 for G-series operating systems. Second, there are updates to ASAP2SYS.EDL that provide new attributes for existing CPU, EXPAND, FILE, and PROCESS entities. The CPU entity was enhanced to include new Blade-Count, Blade-state, and Blades-Up attributes. The EXPAND entity was updated to include new Primary Cpu & Preferred state attributes. FILE and PROCESS entities now allow the Command and Detail strings to support long abstract names. (No SOLN) 2. [V02^AAI] SHOW RELATED MEASUREMENT function provides measure on demand. A new SHOW RELATED MEASUREMENT popup menu provides context sensitive measurement-on-demand. Now when objects of interest are selected in grids or graphs, a new right-mouse popup SHOW RELATED MEASUREMENT can be selected to display a new measure on demand control panel that allows you to start detailed measurements of entities such as Cpu, Disk, File, and Process. The following new options are provided: Node - Dropdown selects measurement node Entity - Dropdown selects measurement entity Object - Dropdown selects measurement object TopN - Dropdown selects the number of Top "N" busy objects to analyze and display in reports. For example, if the entity type is DISK and the Top N value selected is 10 then ASAP will analyze and display the 10 busiest files and the 10 busiest file opener processes for the selected object. Seconds- Dropdown is measurement interval. Sync - Checkbox syncs Measure & ASAP. START - Button starts the measurement. HELP - Button displays help. ASAP related measurement reports appear in standard ASAP report windows and are tiled along with any other report windows. A new progress bar displays measurement progress detail. You can also click the Report window status bar and select additional functions like Correlate as .. for correlation analysis of ASAP and Measure data. Report window content depends on the entity type selected. For example selecting a busy DISK provides a composite report that contains three sub-reports: first logical Disk volume performance, second a sorted report of busiest Disk Files for the selected Disk, third a sorted report of the busiest Disk File Openers for the selected Disk. (SOLN 10-060501-6195) 3. [V02^AAI] SORT VIEW provides persistent column sorts and auto-sizing. Previously when View... Sort ... was selected from the main client window, and you clicked column headings, rows would be sorted alternately in ascending or descending order. However, whenever updates occurred, row order reverted to the default order. However, now when you click a column, rows will remain sorted as long as that view is displayed. Thus now sorts are always persistent even if you switch from sort view to grid-view and back to sort-view. Even subsequent updates are sorted and re-displayed after each sample update. Example: selecting columns such as Busy% or Full% will keep the display sorted in order as long as that view is displayed. Note - a persistent sort is reset if entity or attribute views are altered via ASAP property sheets or if an EDL compile occurs. The SORT View now also auto-sizes column width to the maximum column heading and/or text content. You can change the column sizing algorithm by clicking on the area above the columns while in Sort view and then selecting one of the following size algorithms: Size Columns To Contents + Headings - width is maximum of heading + contents Size Columns To Contents Only - width is text width of contents only Size Columns To Window - stretch/shrink columns to fit within window Size Columns To Default - size width based on best fit algorithm (No SOLN) 4. [V02^AAI] New DELETE REMOVED objects drop-down on General property sheet. A new "Delete Removed" objects drop-down has been added to the General tab of the Properties window. You can use this dropdown to specify when removed objects should be deleted from the client. Certain types of entities such as App, Disk, File, Process, TCP, TELSERV... can have transient objects. A transient object is an object that existed at one time, but is later removed and no longer exists. For example File or Process objects are created when applications are started, but when programs stop, visual objects in the client may be "removed". The "Delete Removed" dropdown can be used to control how long removed objects continue to be displayed by the client before they are actually deleted from displays. Delete Removed drop-down options include: NEVER - Never delete any removed objects IMMEDIATELY - Delete removed objects immediately AFTER N time - Delete removed AFTER N minutes or hours where N = 5, 15, 30 minutes or N = 1, 2, 4, 8, 24 hours. If AFTER N is specified, the value of N must be greater than or equal to the value of AGE N specified in EDL. (No SOLN) 5. [V02^AAI] 2D-Graphs now support single attribute graphing. Now when only one entity attribute is graphed, and graph type is 2D-Bar, a full width 2D histogram is now displayed of only that one single attribute. (No SOLN) 6. [V02^AAI] File, Process, Tcp*, Telserv* now use new AGE option. The ASAP2SYS.EDL file for the File, Process, Tcp*, and Telserv* entities has been updated so the EDL COMMAND property uses a new ASAP CI AGE option. This allows removed objects to be deleted entirely from the client based on the value of the new "Delete Removed" dropdown on the General tab of ASAP property sheet. (No SOLN) 7. [V02^AAI] New TCP & TELSERV Icons added to bitmap library. Twelve (12) new TCPIP and TELSERV entity Icons have been added to the ASAP bitmap library. The following Icons have been added: - TcpIcmp - TcpIp - TcpPort - TcpProcess - TcpQio - TcpRoute - TcpRte - TcpSubnet - TcpUdp - TelservProcess - TelservService - TelservWindow (No SOLN) 8. [V02^AAI] COPY SPECIAL menu copies text without header/trailer/. A new 'Copy Special' function has been added to ASAP Report windows. This function copies report window text to the windows clipboard without header, trailer, or characters. This function can also be accessed via CTL-S. (No SOLN) 9. [V02^AAI] Drop-downs now auto-size to maximum text width. Various Drop-down lists throughout the client now auto-size to longest text length in a drop-down control. This change improves visibility of long object names such as TCP and TELSERV. This change applies to both the main browse window as well as dialog boxes in control panels such as the new Show Related Measurement dialog box. (No SOLN) 10. [V02^AAI] View Graph Nodes/Tile Graph compute Taskbar size/location. Window tiling and positioning in functions such as VIEW... GRAPH NODES and VIEW... TILE GRAPH WINDOWS are now much more sensitive to the size, location, and visibility of the Windows TASKBAR. (No SOLN) 11. [V02^AAI] Notification on state improvement is now provided. Previously when STATE UPGRADES MONITORED was checked on the OSC tab of the ASAP Properties window, ASAP Notification alerts did not occur. Now when this check-box is selected Object State Change (OSC) upgrades result in NOTIFICATION alerts being sent to wireless phones, pagers, email, etc. (No SOLN) 12. [V02^AAI] EDL enhanced with Relation Definition Language (RDL) statements. The Entity Definition Language (EDL) has been extended to support 2 new statements (RELATION and MAP) which define abstract hierarchical relationships between entities (referred to as RDL). These new RDL statements define hierarchical relationships between TCPIP and TELSERV sub-entities. RDL statements are now also exported into the EDL IDE window whenever FILE... EXPORT EDL... is selected and more than one entity is exported. The resultant RDL statements are located at the end of the export. RDL statements are also located at the end of standard factory EDL file named ASAP2 Factory.EDL. (No SOLN) 13. [V02^AAI] EDL limit of 100 ATTRIBUTE statements per ENTITY removed. The limit has been removed to support new TCP and TELSERV entities. For example, the new TcpProcess entity has over 150 attributes. (No SOLN) 14. [V02^AAI] Fixed Interval on SSG tab now allows seconds. The FIXED INTERVAL setting on SSG tab of ASAP properties allows settings of less than 60 seconds. (No SOLN) 15. [V02^AAI] X1 Toolbar button increases samples +10, +10, ... wraps to x1. The X1 Toolbar button can now be used to increase the number of samples displayed in browse window by increments of +10 samples on each click of the "X1" button. Repeated clicks add +10 samples until the Max Rows/Object limit is reached. Samples wrap back to x1 when Max Rows/Object is reached. The Max Rows/Object setting is configured on the SSG tab of the ASAP Properties window, for more info, select HELP button on the ASAP SSG Property sheet. (No SOLN) 16. [V02^AAI] Multiple clients can now run on the same workstation and CSG. To do this Copy and Paste the entire client directory as a different directory name and then rename ASAP.EXE to a different exe name that is longer than 4 characters such as AsapCopy.exe. Different exe names in different directories allow different EDLs, different registry values, different entities, and different NonStop server context. (No SOLN) 17. [V02^AAI] New State Filter Toolbar allows one-click State Filtering. A new State Filter Toolbar appears in the upper right area of the browse window. This provides way to change object state filtering with one click. This filter appears as a list of state Icons with the current minimum state highlighted. To change the minimum state filter you can either click one of the icons or you can still use the pre-existing state filter drop-down. (No SOLN) 18. [V02^AAI] Startup ABOUT box click on close-box now stops the client. Previously clicking the ABOUT close-box title-bar button during startup did not stop the client as it should. Now if you click the close box on the About box during client startup it stops the client, eg it behaves the same as the "CANCEL" button. (SOLN 10-050301-5120) 19. [V02^AAI] OIL intermediate-level clicks now partial-match on domain names. Previously when intermediate levels in OIL were selected, and there were adjacent domains that partially matched on the path name these adjacent names could also appear in the graph/grid portion of the client. This no longer occurs. (SOLN 10-060208-4337) 20. [V02^AAI] New OEM Context drop-down added to OEM property tab. The Context drop-down controls the amount of object-state information passed to the OEM. Normal Context is the default and provides limited information, other options are Full Context as XML and Full Context as CSV format. These options are explained below. Normal Context - When this setting is selected, the ASAP client context string for each object contains only the name and value of the attribute with the highest alert state (this is the default context). Full Context as XML - When this setting is selected, ASAP client will append XML pairs for each entity attribute name and value that has its Show in Graph property enabled. The XML tag will be the same as the Attribute heading property, eg 98 66. Prior to value pairs, a context sting similar to Normal context will appear. Full Context as CSV - When this setting is selected, ASAP client will append CSV (comma separated values) for each entity attribute name and value that has its Show in Graph property enabled. The name will be the same as the attribute heading property. (No SOLN) 21. [V02^AAI] CSG version 3.1.15 is distributed in the latest Client Setup. If you do not want to use this new CSG, do not click the Install CSG button during Setup. This new CSG supports both longer and stronger passwords as well as alias logons. (No SOLN) 22. [V02^AAI] You can control ASAP client component focus on Windows XP. Some versions of Microsoft Windows such as Windows XP use registry the setting "ForegroundLockTimemout". This setting may prevent applications from taking focus during normal callback processing if objects in OIL or OEM are selected. Whether this is a problem or a feature is subject to interpretation. If you consider this a problem, this behavior can be changed by downloading and installing the Microsoft TweakUI control panel from: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/ xppowertoys.mspx (No SOLN) Problems Corrected: NONE Known Problems Remaining: NONE
